Abby my l0 year old Patterdale terrier was diagnosed recently with Pituitary Based Cushings. After one month on lx 30mg pill of Vetoryl daily her symptoms appeared to be addisonian so she is now on 2x10mg Vetoryl daily every l2 hours with a little food. 1 week into this lower level of Vetoryl and she is so much better, however, I notice that she has quite prolonged episodes of mild tremors when she is lying down and that she also has dandruff! Despite bath with mild shampoo it came back the next day. I can't find any information on tremors when using Vetoryl -can you advise?
Thank you very much CRichardson

Hi,

If you Google 'Vetoryl for Dogs' and read 'Cushings Part Three' you will find a very useful account by the owner of a dog which was treated with Vetoryl for Cushings syndrome.
Skin problems do occasionally arise, but I am not aware of tremors being common when on Vetoryl treatment, though I am sure that if any other readers of these posts have encountered them, they will tell us!

I just put my 10 yr old schnauzer on Vetoryl (30 mg), 1 capsule per day. I am looking at the instructions on the box and is states Vetoryl should be administered with food. Maybe it's a different formula?? Capsules, distributed by Ve'toquinoll. Manufactured by Dechra Ltd.

Hi,

ALWAYS follow the makers' instructions. If you do not, and anything adverse happens, they will not accept responsibility.

My beautiful 12 yr old shephard/sheltie mix was diagnosed early with cushings two years ago. The symptoms are now at a point where my vet has recommended starting treatment with vetoryl but admitted very little experience with treating cushings. Thank you to everyone who has posted to the forum. I was hesitant to try this med based on the brochure's adverse reactions and field study results but by sharing your experiences you have helped me make my decision to try it.

The brochure mentioned administering the meds with food for better absorbtion but one of the posts here said they had better results giving the meds two hours before. Some of these posts are dated back to 2006 and 2007. Does anyone have any newer, more solid recommendations so that I can discuss that along with splitting the dosage with my vet? Now that vetoryl is FDA approved, is Marketing International still the cheapest place to purchase the meds?

Please keep posting your experiences and success stories. Thank you very much!!!!

My 4.5 year old Dobermann has just been diagnosed with Cushing's Disease. She started Vetoryl yesterday (120mg daily). She is so listless and unhappy. I find it so very hard to see her like this, in two minds whether to give the next dose.

I wanted to say thank you to all have contributed to this discussion, reading from owner's of dogs with Cushings still have them alive and well four years on has heartened me at a time when I'm so unsure that I am doing the right thing for her.

Is anyone aware of a written book on Canine Cushing's Disease? I've done several searches and so far have not come up with anything.

Thanks,
